VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, 1940s - Lot 145
VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, 1940s Yellow gold 750‰ "Bouquet de myosotis" lapel clip brooch, the five mobile flowers, each pistil pricked with an 8/8-cut diamond, the petals set with round faceted sapphires. The bouquet ribbon is embellished with a rectangular tassel engraved: "Ne m'oubliez pas", the reverse engraved "L.L.K. à I.M.C.". Pins in yellow gold 750‰. Signed "VAN CLEEF & ARPELS DEPOSE" and numbered "53238". French work, diamond-shaped hallmark of the Atelier Ladislas BERGOLZ. P. Gross weight: 10.9 g (Slight deformations, chips). In the 1940s, naturalistic bouquets occupied a special place in Van Cleef & Arpels' production, underlining the jeweler's taste for flora. Combining smooth yellow gold, diamonds, sapphires and rubies, these bouquets also reflect the 19th-century vogue for sentimental jewelry and the importance attached to the language of flowers: for example, bouquets of violets and cornflowers. Our "forget-me-not" bouquet corresponds to the symbolism of remembrance and fidelity. Atelier Ladislas Bergolz was particularly active for Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1940s-1950s, manufacturing the famous "Danseuses" and "Tourbillon" brooches.
