Islamic and Indian art

Historically associated with the field of Orientalism, objects from the Islamic and Indian worlds are now more than ever intended to exist and be appreciated on their own terms—not through a Western lens—in a context where traditional Orientalism is increasingly understood as a style of “domination, restructuring, and authority over the Orient.”

These sales offer an opportunity to highlight the extraordinary richness of the arts produced in the Islamic worlds, from Spain to India, from the 7th to the 20th century.
