NO ONLINE AUCTION FOR THIS LOT. - Lot 11
NO ONLINE AUCTION FOR THIS LOT. CONTACT THE AUCTION HOUSE Le PHO (1907-2001) [VIETNAM/FRANCE] Young woman sewing, circa 1942. Ink and colors on silk marouflaged on cardboard. Signed and stamped upper left. 35.2 x 29.5 cm (Small stains) Provenance : Private collection Saint-Germain en Laye A certificate of authenticity will be given to the buyer. Our thanks to Mr. Le Kim, specialist and son of the artist. "La Couseuse", typical of works from the late 1930s and 1940s, depicts a young Vietnamese woman at work in the household: her features are delicate and delicate, her pose graceful, her gesture choreographic. The technique is virtuoso, as painting on silk does not allow for repentance. Le Phô contrasts opaque areas, such as the hair and the lacquered table, with transparent areas, such as the silk dress or the voile curtains. Similarly, he contrasts bright colors with the white halo of the dress. His depiction of the seamstress becomes not only a testimony to everyday life, but also an ideal of serene beauty. An exhibition is currently on at the Musée Cernuschi: Lê Phô, Mai-Thu, Vu Cao Dam, Pionniers de l'art moderne vietnamien en France (winter-spring 2025).
