Delivered new on January 8, 1999, it is a Phase 2 model, recognizable by its BMW E46-style headlamps and even higher level of equipment. Notable feature: although this is a short-chassis version, it benefits from options usually reserved for long-wheelbase iL versions. A stamp on the first page of the service booklet reads: "BMW AG Werk 1.2 Sonderablauf Dienstfahrzeug". The term "Sonderablauf" refers to a special manufacturing procedure, outside the standard production line. Dienstfahrzeug refers to a company vehicle, intended for specific internal use. This example was the executive car of a senior manager at BMW AG in Munich until July 1999. It was then that its current owner purchased it, even though the car only had 8,700 km on the clock. It was imported into France via a Parisian agent specializing in this type of private order. The purchase invoice mentions a list price of 622,980 francs, or the inflation-inclusive equivalent of €146,000 today. It features an atypical "German brochure" configuration. There are no dents or scratches to report. The exterior plastics are as black as when they left the factory. The leathers are perfect, supple and matt, while the steering wheel and woodwork show no signs of age. Even the deep trunk has been protected since its purchase in 1999 and shows no signs of wear. Always stored in a closed box or garage, this 740i was mainly used for motorway journeys between Paris and the Auvergne region, where the owner's holiday home is located.
