The first owner, who worked for Citroën from 1942 on the Quai de Javel until 1982 in Vélizy, where he ended his career as chief metrology engineer, ordered his CX on April 26, 1978.
To take his family on vacation, he didn't deny himself anything, ordering a 5-speed gearbox, Diravi and Isoter as options, so that the little tributary could travel in the best possible conditions.
The family, very attached to Citroën, enjoyed the car until the early 2000s, when it was retired following a minor accident.
From the time it left the Aulnay-sous-Bois factory until 2025, when it was acquired by a young enthusiast who recognized its rarity and unique history. Caught up in the passage of time, our young enthusiast briefly restarted the car a few months ago and drove it 200 kilometers without a hitch. It is our hope that this CX, special in more ways than one, will once again join a garage where it will be pampered and receive the care and repairs it deserves.
With just over 100,000 km on the clock, as the oil change stickers attest, and despite a few traces of corrosion on the bottom of a door and on the rocker panels, our CX is in remarkably original condition.
A moving folder accompanies the car: Philips radio manual, vintage "F" sticker, owner's manual, "service vente aux collaborateurs" card with red strikethrough, order form for the car, SOVAC rental contract for the car - it's all here, taking us 50 years back in time, for lovers of cars with a history.
Intended in 1974 to replace the DS, itself the successor to the Traction, the CX is still remembered today as the emblematic Citroën of the 70s and 80s. It benefits from numerous technical innovations which, throughout its seventeen-year career, have given it exceptional qualities and still set it apart in 2026.
Designed by Robert Opron, the Citroën CX stands out for its aerodynamic profile and taut lines. Its name, "CX", refers to the coefficient of drag (C_x), an indicator of aerodynamics, of which the car was a model in its day.
The entire interior layout has been carefully studied. The most emblematic element is undoubtedly the famous lunula-shaped dashboard, which sits on the dashboard like a special vessel. At the time, this futuristic design, combined with technical innovations such as servo-assisted steering, made the CX a benchmark for comfort and modernity. Renowned for its versatility, the Citroën CX appealed to families and businessmen alike, while embodying the spirit of luxury à la française. A true icon of its time, it remains today a model prized by collectors for its unique design and avant-garde technologies that have left their mark on automotive history.
