[LORY, father and son]. - Lot 76
[LORY, father and son]. A Collection of Views of Switzerland... Paris, Adolphe Delahays, 1850. Large 8vo (approx. 28 x 18 cm), title page, portrait, map, 36 copperplate engravings. Contemporary blue half-calf binding, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and scrolls, gilt title (some wear to the binding, rubbed joints, marginal foxing on the plates but slightly more pronounced on the map). A beautiful, very rare Romantic-era album. The title page is printed on laid paper. A collection of views of Switzerland consisting of a title page with an engraved vignette, a plate depicting a woman in Swiss costume, a map of the Simplon Road, begun by the French in 1800 and completed by them in 1807, drawn up by Cordier, an engineer at the Simplon; and 36 views along the Simplon Road, engraved on copper and printed in bistre, sepia, and blue, or in color for a few of them. The title page lists only 35 views; this copy contains one additional view. A fine copy.
