LAMARTINE, Alphonse de. - Lot 66
LAMARTINE, Alphonse de. [Jocelyn]. MANUSCRIPT. An exceptional collection centered on *Jocelyn*, a major work by the Romantic poet, bringing together a first-year edition of the original—with a dedicatory inscription—and the complete manuscript of *Jocelyn*. - Jocelin (the spelling differs in the title). A remarkable manuscript of the entire text, with no corrections, lines drawn in pencil and then erased, written in fine hand in brown ink. In-4 format. Bound in a contemporary gray percaline, with embossed covers (wear to the binding; the inner joint is occasionally slightly loose or partially weakened; some foxing). Attributed to Lamartine’s own hand. -Jocelyn. Episode. A Diary Found at a Village Priest’s House. Paris, Furne, Ch. Gosselin, 1836. 2 volumes, in-8. Signed red morocco, ribbed spine, gilt title, gilt lace on the endpapers, handmade paper endpapers, guilloché headbands, gilt edges (a few scattered foxing spots). One of the first editions of this great novel-in-verse comprising 9,000 lines. In an elegant Jansenist morocco leather binding signed by Chambolle-Duru. An autographed dedication to Monsieur [Villemun] by Lamartine on the half-title page, dated March 1836.
