Contemporary Italian half-vellum with small corners, smooth spines adorned with title labels and volume numbers in fawn and red sheepskin, decorated with gilt scrolls and fillets, gilt titles (some wear and minor losses to the bindings, uneven foxing on the text, the plates remaining fresh overall, a few minor marginal tears, one volume number plate damaged). Genuine second edition, printed in large 8vo format in Florence. "Il Costume Antico E Moderno, or a History of Government, Military Affairs, Religion, the Arts, Sciences, and Customs Among All Ancient and Modern Peoples, Verified by the Monuments of Antiquity and Illustrated with Corresponding Drawings by Dr. Giulio Ferrario." A fine copy. Numerous black etchings, finely watercolored in the period, printed on fine paper; some are fold-out plates. Delightful colors.
