[MANUSCRIPT LECTURE NOTES. ARTILLERY—CHEMISTRY. 19th century]
[Compilation of 2 manuscripts]
-[MILITARIA. SCIENTIFIC WEAPONS].
Artillery Course. (Construction of artillery carriages (...) - Artillery Services - Small Arms).
1876.
Square 8vo. Sewn in a gray paper cover. Handwritten notebook of 38 bound leaves, including 2 blank leaves, in brown ink.
Notes taken by a military officer, most likely a cadet at the Artillery and Engineering Training School in Fontainebleau (now the Artillery School) (based on the status of the names cited and the subject matter), covering three artillery courses taught in 1876 by Captains Lachèns and Jouffrey, as well as by Colonel Astier: an explanation of the profiling of gun barrels to facilitate the sliding of projectiles; Foreign Artillery, a description of projectiles, their configuration, and the mechanisms and components used in combat (cavalry, sabers, swords, and bayonets), concluding with an explanation of French weapons.
The notes contain calculations, some equations, and angles.
The author uses drawings to illustrate the various firing mechanisms in use in England, Italy, Germany, and Austria.
A few pages are marked with the lesson number at the top of the page, indicating that the notes were taken at a military school during the first semester of 1876.
