Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 447
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Chenard-Walcker Tank 1.1-liter 1926 Gouache on card stock (traces of moisture, mold, and dirt) Notes: Like Bugatti and Voisin, Chenard-Walcker experimented with race cars featuring aerodynamic, tank-shaped bodies. This design proved to be highly successful, as the small Tank won its class in several major races. The engine was a four-cylinder (68 × 80 mm, 1,095 cm³) with overhead valves actuated by rocker arms, plus an exhaust port at the end of the piston’s stroke. This car proved to be fast and durable. Without a supercharger, it reached 153 km/h; the supercharged version that raced in 1926 had a top speed of 175 km/h. P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965.
