Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 429
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Railton 1936 Gouache on card stock 11 x 32 cm (traces of moisture, mold, and dirt) Notes: “A development of the car shown on page 170, this Railton with bodywork by Carbodies was exhibited in London in 1936. A lighter version was clocked at 171 km/h; it accelerated from 0 to 96 km/h in 8.8 seconds. In addition to the 4-liter inline-eight engine, the brand offered a 2.7-liter six-cylinder engine in 1936; later, a “baby” Railton, derived from the Standard 10 CV, was added to the lineup. The resemblance between the Railton’s radiator and that of the Invicta is no coincidence, as the former brand rose from the ashes of the latter.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache is reproduced on p. 185.
