Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 428
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Minerva 32cv 1927 Gouache on card stock 22 x 49.5 cm (signs of moisture, mold, and soiling) Notes: “Métallurgique, Excelsior, Minerva, F.N., Imperia—prestigious Belgian brands, none of which, unfortunately, have survived. Originally, Minerva manufactured bicycles and motorcycles; then, in 1904, it shifted to automobile production. From 1908 until World War II, it remained faithful to Knight-type valveless engines. Magnificently built, these machines had a chassis capable of supporting a body as large as this elegant phaeton created by Hibbard and Darrin.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache is reproduced on p. 131.
