Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 412
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Hispano-Suiza Boulogne Model, 1924 Gouache on cardstock 24.5 x 49.5 cm (signs of moisture, mold, and dirt) Notes: “This sumptuous body was constructed entirely of tulipwood riveted with copper by the Nieuport aircraft factory. It was mounted on the famous 46 CV Boulogne chassis, designed by Swiss engineer Mare Birkigt. Its large six-cylinder engine, displacing nearly 8 liters (110 x 140 mm), featured an overhead camshaft driven by a vertical shaft and bevel gears. The four brakes were assisted by a powerful servo actuated by the transmission. This one-of-a-kind car was built for André Dubonnet, who drove it in the 1924 Targa Florio. It later belonged to a young Englishman, Mr. Albertini, who had the original long fenders replaced with those shown in the drawing. It is now in America. Its top speed exceeded 175 km/h.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache reproduction appears on p. 90.
