Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 404
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Ceirano 2.3-liter 15/20 1920 Gouache on card stock 24 x 49.5 cm (traces of moisture, mold, and dirt) Notes: “With its rear-mounted steering wheel, this car is reminiscent of those from the heroic age; this body style was certainly designed for hot, dry climates. A descendant of the S.C.A.T. and similar to many other Italian brands, the Ceirano did not feature any truly original characteristics, except that a generally well-informed author attributes side intake valves and overhead exhaust valves to it. The engine was a four-cylinder (75 x 130 mm) with a displacement of 2,297 cc, mated to a four-speed transmission and a straight-cut bevel-gear rear axle. Later versions of the Ceirano were barely distinguishable at first glance from the Lancia Lambda.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache reproduction appears on p. 89.
