Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 403
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Renault 7.5-liter, 1914 Gouache on card stock 20.5 x 49.5 cm (signs of moisture, mold, and soiling) Notes: “This angularly shaped limousine dates from before the Great War; it preceded the famous 40 CV. The staid faces of its wealthy owners appeared to pedestrians like vignettes framed by the portholes. Front brakes had not yet been introduced at Billancourt, and those on the Parrière model were reduced to their simplest form. The radiator was integrated into the bodywork behind the hood, which housed a six-cylinder engine (100 x 160 mm, 7,541 cm°) with side valves. Power was transmitted via a cone clutch, a four-speed grid-shift transmission, and a bevel gear differential.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache is reproduced on p. 83.
