Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 402
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Siddeley-Deasy 18/24 1911 Gouache on card stock 17 x 25 cm (cut-out cardboard, water stains, mold, and soiling) Notes: “Colonel Siddeley succeeded Herbert Austin as an engineer at Wolseley. As a result, we saw the successive emergence of a Wolseley-Siddeley, a Siddeley, a Siddeley-Deasy, and finally an Armstrong-Siddeley. The Siddeley-Deasy had a four-cylinder engine (90 x 130 mm), valveless, with concentric sleeves; a radiator mounted behind the cylinders in the style of Renault; a four-speed transmission; a worm gear differential; and cantilever rear springs. Electric headlights were increasingly replacing acetylene lighting.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache reproduction appears on p. 57.
