Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 396
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) 1926 Sunbeam 3-Liter Twin-Cam Gouache on card stock 40 x 50 cm (signs of moisture, mold, and soiling) Notes: “One of the classic cars of the ‘Vintage’ era, the Sunbeam 3-liter with twin overhead camshafts, was developed by engineer Coatelen to compete against the Bentley 3-liter. Its best result was a second-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1925, behind a Lorraine. The two camshafts, driven by a gear train, operated two valves per cylinder; the displacement was 3,916 cm³ (75 x 110 mm). Power output was 90 CV at 3,800 rpm. A long wheelbase of 3.30 m and a narrow track width compromised its handling.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache reproduction appears on p. 115.
