Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 395
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) 1907 Mercedes 120cv Grand Prix Gouache on card stock 18 x 49.5 cm (signs of moisture, mold, and soiling) Notes: “Despite its mediocre performance in the 1907 Grand Prix races, this car served as the basis for the 1908 model. Its 14.4-liter four-cylinder engine (175 x 150 mm) had overhead intake valves, while the exhaust valves were side-mounted; it produced 120 CV at 1,200 rpm. The engine of the car that won the 1908 French Grand Prix had a smaller bore and a longer stroke (115 × 170 mm, 12.8 liters); it produced 130 CV at 1,400 rpm.” Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache reproduction appears on p. 37.
