Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) - Lot 363
Pierre DUMONT (1920–1987) Ballot 2 LTS 1925 Gouache on card stock 38.5 x 64.5 cm (signs of moisture, mold, and soiling) Notes: “Before 1914, Ballot manufactured only engines. He then moved into automobile production, and as early as 1919, he entered various inline-eight-cylinder models in major international races; these were designed by the Swiss engineer Henry, a leading specialist in double overhead camshaft engines. Starting in 1922, Ballot marketed a 2-liter model available in several versions—with either two or a single overhead camshaft—which enjoyed some success; these were the Saint-Sébastien, then the 2LT and 2 LTS (pictured here). After a brief foray into the luxury car market, the Ballot company was acquired by Hispano-Suiza in 1931. Bibliography: P. DUMONT, *Aux Temps Des Automobilistes*, Lazarus Publishing, 1965; our gouache is reproduced on p. 107.
