(3) ff., 390 pp., (1) f. (avis) and p. (391)-719, (2) ff. (approbation, privilège, avis au relieur); 8 pp. (bookseller's catalog). With 30 black copper-engraved plates, including a frontispiece map of Lutetia (opposite pp.1 of volume 1 in this copy), 20 of which are folding with a few "panoramic" views. A sought-after work. Part of this work is commonly attributed to Georges Louis Le Rouge, but he seems to have intervened on the text only after the death of the bookseller Saugrain, for the 1771 edition of Les Libraires associés. Also included: FRANKLIN (Alfred). Estat, noms et nombre de toutes les rues de Paris en 1636. According to the unpublished manuscript in the Bibliothèque nationale. Preceded by a study on the road system and public hygiene in Paris since the 12th century. Paris, Léon Willem, 1873, in-12, 167 pp. index. Navy half-maroquin with corners highlighted with gilt fillet, spine ribbed and decorated in the neo-gothic style, with gilt stippling and rose and interlace boxes, gilt head. Edition of 350 numbered copies only. One of the copies on Vosges laid paper. In a fine, attractive, unsigned but very well-executed binding. Cover preserved, with penciled letter from the author to Mr. Martin.
