Hagiographic biography of Father Antonio Ruiz de Montoya, attributed to Juan Antonio Xarque, who sometimes published under the name of his brother, Francisco Jarque.
Consists of 16 preliminary pp. including a framed title page with fleurons in the spandrels and a large vignette with the Spanish royal coat of arms on the verso, a dedication by Jarque to King Philip IV, dated 1661 in Albarracín and an approval by Jarque's brother, Juan Antonio Jarque of the Society of Jesus, also dated 1661. Followed by the text, also framed by a double fillet and adorned with wood-engraved lettering and culs-de-lampe, intended to highlight Montoya's heroic and spititual virtues, his celestial favors and apostolic works...
Montoya was a great specialist of the Guarani language, one of the languages of the Tupi-Guarani family spoken in Paraguay.
