[Manuscript]. [Poland; Hungary]. BOONSAJER, Q.J. Atlas der Aarde. Deel gehelzende Prussiche, voormalig Poolen en Hongarije. S.l., (ca. 1800). In-8, (3) ff. (title, table), 48 double plates of maps. Contemporary fawn half-basin with corners, ornate spine with false-nerves, title-piece, gilt scrolls, mounted on mitre (upper jaw split, head-cap and head-pieces worn but interior still fresh). Small atlas, perhaps a pocket or military campaign atlas, concerning Prussia, former Poland and Hungary, in its contemporary binding. Entirely handwritten in brown ink, it comprises a title, an index and 48 maps, all drawn in ink, watercolored and captioned in Dutch. Latitude and longitude coordinates also in ink. The maps bear their titles in a cartouche or outside the frame. The invasive and bellicose context of the Revolutionary campaigns and Napoleonic ambitions, particularly for these areas and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, could explain such a handwritten document. There are only 2 other handwritten documents of human cartography and census made by this Boonsajer around 1800 (Bibliotheek Maatschappij Nederlandscre letterkunde te Leiden). Only one map is dated, that of Poland (1793). KAART. MANUSCRIPT. NETHERLANDS. BELGIUM.
