ESNAULT, Jacques, ed. - Lot 103
ESNAULT, Jacques, ed.
Nouveau plan routier de la ville de Paris et de ses faubourgs. A Paris, chez Esnault, 1810.
A copper-engraved folding map in black (ca. 69 x 106 cm), town hall boundaries colored, folded in publisher's hardback, title label on upper board (folds lightly browned with small splits).
This large map by Esnault provides an accurate representation of the French capital on the eve of the Empire, with the city's 12 town halls. It details the main districts of Paris, as well as its faubourgs, the outlying areas that extend beyond the city's historic core. Streets, boulevards and major thoroughfares are clearly identified, with different colors to make them easier to spot. The Seine, which crosses the city, is punctuated by numerous bridges linking the two banks and underlining the river's central role in the organization of Paris.
