Heinrich Rudolph Schinz (1777-1861) was a Swiss physician and zoologist. He gave up medicine to teach natural history at the Institute of Medicine and then at Zurich University. Between 1815 and 1852, he wrote a number of important works on zoology and natural history, including Naturgeschichte und Abbildungen des Menschen... a very rare work, absent from important bibliographies including Ferguson, Bagnall, Hocken, Sabin and Field.
