[Binding with arms]. LE BLANC, Vincent. BERGERON, Pierre. Les Voyages fameux du sieur Vincent Le Blanc, Marseillois, Qu'il a Faits, Depuis l'Age de Douze Ans Jusques a Soixante, aux Quatre Parties du Monde;; A Scavoir: aux Indes Orientales et Occidentales, en Perse et Pegu, aux Royaumes de Fez, de Maroc et de Guinee; & dans l'Afrique Interieure, Depuis le Cap de Bonne Esperance Jusques en Alexandrie, par les Terres de Monomotapa, du Preste Iean & de l'Egypte. A Paris, chez Gervais Clovsier, 1658. 3 parts in 1 volume in-4, (1) f. (title), 202-(5) pp. ; 147-(4) pp. ; 109-(3) pp. contemporary speckled tan basane, ribbed spine, renewed gilt title, arms at tail of spine, gilt arms on boards, double gilt fillet on edges, gilt roulette on endpapers, red speckled edges (defects including almost detached upper board, uncovered headpieces, light spotting at beginning of vol, browning, last f. faded and stained). New edition of this curious work based on the manuscripts of Vincent Le Blanc (1553-1633), a traveler from Marseilles. The geographical descriptions it contains are accompanied by comments of all kinds, mixing verifiable observations with imaginary considerations. This interesting provenance testifies to the interest this work aroused in its time, and beyond: the binding bears the arms of Gabriel-Jérôme de Bullion de Bonnelles (1695-1752), maître de camp of the Régiment de Provence, provost of the city of Paris, then maréchal de camp (OHR, 640, variant not reproduced); the copy then passed into the library of Abbé André Morellet (1727-1819), economist, close to the philosophers and contributor to the Encyclopédie, with his engraved bookplate.
