Honda 1000 four VX Japauto 1974 - Lot 190
Honda 1000 four VX Japauto 1974 No reserve Chassis n°1000VX833 Engine n°1000VX1133 Spanish registration Good condition 38500 km on the odometer To be restarted (engine not blocked) Sold without CT Extremely rare in France The 1000 VX, based on a Honda 750, had a specific Japauto registration. This registration gave it French "nationality", an administrative detail which proved essential for its export. At the time, Spain was still under dictatorship, following the Spanish Civil War. The regime in power had instituted a strong policy of industrial protection, banning Japanese products in particular in order to preserve national production. Thanks to this administrative arrangement, French Japauto bikes could be legally imported into Spain (based on a French parts content of over 60%) despite the ban on Japanese motorcycles. A clever move on Japauto's part, often attributed to Senior Vilaseca. A total of 73 examples were sold in this market. The example shown here is one of the few surviving of these 73 bikes delivered to Spain. Today, they are the pride and joy of Spanish collectors, while they remain extremely rare in France. According to available information, only two 1000 VXs remain in France today. On the road, the engine feel is more reminiscent of an early Kawasaki 1000 than a Honda 750. Unlike an 836cc 750, where the Honda base is still clearly recognizable, the Japauto gives a more radical and different impression. This difference comes at a high price: the Japauto was sold at almost three times the price of a standard Honda CB750 (over 31,000 F compared with around 11,300 F for the CB750). This was the price of exclusivity.
