LAVERDA 750 GT(F) 1971 - Lot 188
LAVERDA 750 GT(F) 1971 No reserve Chassis n°4681 Engine n°6379 French registration To be restarted (engine not blocked) Sold without CT In the early 1970s, the Laverda 750 established itself as one of the most serious machines in the European large-displacement category. In its early days, apart from an increase in displacement, it was virtually identical to the 650 version. However, in September 1968, Laverda engineers began developing a more advanced, sportier version. The aim was to offer a machine more in keeping with the Italian tradition of high-performance motorcycles, while retaining the robustness for which the basic model was already renowned. With the arrival of this new sporty version, the first model was renamed 750 GT to more clearly assert its touring and long-distance orientation. To reinforce this touring vocation, a number of optional extras were quickly added, including high handlebars, a pannier guard, a luggage rack and saddlebags. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Italy was a veritable center of innovation in motorcycling, and the Laverda 750 GT was fully in line with this dynamic. Its design took its cue from classic Italian motorcycles: a large fuel tank, a long seat and Borrani spoke wheels. Mechanically, the 750 GT was equipped with a 744 cm³, four-stroke, air-cooled, parallel-twin engine developing around 52 horsepower, a significant output for its time. Its particularly robust design quickly earned it a reputation for exceptional reliability. Many enthusiasts still consider its engine to be one of the strongest of its generation. The Laverda 750 GT also served as the basis for the development of sportier models, notably the S, SF and SFC versions, which enjoyed great success in endurance racing. Today, the Laverda 750 GT has become a true collector's item. Its timeless style, distinctive sound and importance in Italian motorcycling history make it a highly sought-after machine. It remains a symbol of an era when manufacturers attached as much importance to the personality and character of a motorcycle as to its performance.
