LAVERDA 500 FORMULA (REPLICA) circa 1979 - Lot 187
LAVERDA 500 FORMULA (REPLICA) circa 1979 No reserve Chassis n°2106 Engine n°2819 No registration, racing motorcycle To be restarted (engine not blocked) Sold without CT The Laverda 500 Formula was developed from the production Laverda 500 thanks to the high sporting potential of its engine. Designed at the end of 1977 and launched in 1978, it was intended for competition with the creation of the Coppa Laverda single-brand championship, inspired by Augusto Brettoni. Prepared for racing, it received an improved engine (52 hp at 9500 rpm), a short gearbox, racing camshafts and a weight reduction to 154 kg. It could reach speeds of up to 220 km/h, and stood out for its agility, particularly on twisty circuits and at the Isle of Man TT. Laverda provided strong support for riders, with discounted spare parts, trackside assistance and a road homologation kit. A first series of 75 bikes was produced in 1978, followed by further series with a number of evolutions, including modified bodywork for easier maintenance. The Coppa Laverda was held between 1978 and 1981 in Italy, Belgium and Germany, gradually gaining in popularity. In competition, the Formula achieved very good results in the TT, finishing several times in the top 10 despite its strictly production design. In 1981, an experimental 579 cm³ version was developed by Maurice Ogier. This machine went on to win the Daytona BOTT with Alan Cathcart, demonstrating remarkable performance despite the disputes that followed its victory.
