Now all this endearing Italian needs is a talented mechanic to bring her back to life, or a fine exhibition space where she can fully tell her story. In the aftermath of the Second World War, Gilera established itself as one of the great names in motorcycle racing, winning the 500 cm³ World Championship six times between 1950 and 1957, the premier class of the era. The 1957 Gilera 150 Sport is one of the last models to fully reflect the brand's sporting vocation. It is powered by a 146 cm³, air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, overhead-valve engine developing around 8 hp, combined with a four-speed manual gearbox. Equipped with telescopic forks and oscillating rear suspension, the 150 Sport boasts slim, elegant, typically Italian lines. Capable of reaching speeds of close to 100 km/h, it offered remarkable performance for its class at a time when small, sporty cylinders were all the rage.
