Based in London, he distinguished himself through the exceptional quality of his marine chronometers and precision watches, to the point of being appointed watchmaker to the British Crown. His reputation remains inextricably linked to the creation of the famous Big Ben clock, completed after his death by his stepson Frederick Dent in 1859. This prestigious commission attests to the trust placed in him by British institutions. The Dent company distinguished itself through a rigorous approach to chronometry, producing highly reliable timepieces intended for both navigation and observatories. Its pieces, sought after by collectors, embody the excellence of English watchmaking at its peak, before Switzerland gradually established itself as the global center of fine watchmaking.
