Etienne Marie Alfred GARNIER (1848-1908) - Lot 16
Etienne Marie Alfred GARNIER (1848-1908) "Trefoils Rare gilt bronze bowl decorated with shamrock leaves in slight relief enclosing a half-hemispherical vessel in polychrome enamels with silver inclusions, decorated with butterflies and floral motifs on a cream background. AG" monogram Circa 1901. Height: 13.5 cm (Beginning of a crack at the foot) Bibliography: Black & white model reproduced in "The Paris Salon", volume VI, Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, page 279. Note: Etienne Marie Alfred Garnier (1848-1908) was a painter, engraver and enameller of the second half of the 19th century. A student of Alexandre Cabanel, his works are rare on the market. In his studio, he collaborated with the famous goldsmith and enameller Paul Grandhomme, Fernand Thesmar and Georges Jean. The Musée d'Orsay collections include six objects by Alfred Garnier and Paul Grandhomme. The bowl we present, probably a one-off, bears only Garnier's monogram and is one of the few surviving examples of his work.
