[Italy] VASCELLINI (Gaetano) Raccolta dei Disegni delle Fabbriche regie de'Bagni di Montecatini nella Valdinievole. Firenze, s.n., 1787. Large folio (58.5 x 40.6 cm), [4] ff. 15 plates including title-frontispiece. Contemporary marbled havana half-basin with corners, dominoté paper boards, ornate ribbed spine, gilt title (binding rubbed, small worm gallery on the spine and first two leaves, slight soiling to the title, slight wetness in the upper margin of a few plates). The only edition of this elegant publication for the new thermal baths at Montecatini near Pistoia, Tuscany. Exceptional illustrated work on the former spa town of Montecatini, west of Florence, and its new buildings, designed by the neoclassical architect and sculptor Niccolo Gasparo Paoletti (1727-1813) on the initiative of the Tuscan Grand Duke Peter Leopold between 1774 and 1778. Large engraved title-frontispiece with architectural balustrade and large coat of arms, with Montecatini in background, general site plan and 14 black copper engravings, mitered and double-page, illustrating the new establishment with cross-sections, facades, interiors, details of the technical network and lead pipes... The title page and general view were designed by Antonio Terreni. The architectural drawings are signed by the architect Paoletti, the engineer Capretti, and the draftsman Puliti. Engravings by Vascellini, Zocchi and Battista Cecchi, Eredi and Gregori and all members of the Accademia delle Belle Arti of Florence.
