[MONDHARE, Louis-Joseph] - Lot 138
[MONDHARE, Louis-Joseph] Plan de la ville et faubourg de Paris divisé en ses 48 sections...decrete par l'Assemblée nationale le 22 juin 1790 et sanctionné par le Roi. "This plan is the only one accepted by the National Assembly for the division of the sections." [Paris], [Jean], 1792. One copper-engraved plan (65 x 97 cm), including margins, hand-colored. Nice copy on strong laid paper. Large 18th-century plan of Paris illustrating its 48 divisions decreed by the National Assembly in 1790. Reissued under the Terror. Re-engraved for the Assembly without major topographical modifications, with the 48 divisions proposed by Verniquet. Squared horizontally from A to K and vertically from 1 to 6. It shows Montmartre to the north and extends south to the Charité cemetery. To the west, it shows the Place d'Etoile to the Place du Trône (Place de la Nation). It details the city's streets, districts and main monuments, which are listed in a legend. The plan is enhanced by a large illustrated title cartouche. Beautifully engraved cartouche with figures bearing the coat of arms of the City of Paris: the nymph of the Seine. Tiny marginal tears restored on verso. Boutier, 337 C, 350.
