Large drawings of a project for a monumental lighthouse in h - Lot 90
Large drawings of a project for a monumental lighthouse in honor of Christopher Columbus in Santo Domingo. Two drawings. [Circa 1925-1930]. Approx. 166 x 80 cm and 149 x 81 cm. Black grease pencil and wash. Canvas-backed drawings. Partially faded stamps on the backs ("Dogana Roma"). Large presentation drawings of a monumental lighthouse, in elevation and cross-section. These drawings appear to have been exhibited, as suggested by the pencil annotation "Exp. Rome, Expos Madrid" on the lower left of the elevation and the customs stamp on the back. In 1923, it was decided to create a large-scale memorial to Christopher Columbus, to be erected in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) with the participation of all American countries. A major architectural competition was organized; these two drawings are a proposal for that competition.
