[HUVÉ, Jean-Jacques]. [Circa 1890-1808]. - Lot 88
[HUVÉ, Jean-Jacques]. [Circa 1890-1808]. Large project for a public and republican monument with a column. Pen and wash. Doubled drawing, marginal tears. Signed lower right: "J.an J.es [Huvé]". Large-scale project for a neoclassical waterfront monument, deliberately ambitious and spectacular, with a strictly symmetrical organization and preceded by a tall column with a spiral historiated shaft in the manner of the Trajan column. The column is surmounted by a winged male figure holding a trumpet, standing on a globe. The side pavilions bear the inscriptions "l'Égalité rétablie" and "la Liberté conquise". After the Revolution, Jean-Jacques Huvé took part in several competitions launched by the Convention, then by the Consulate, and, while imprisoned, he drew up a project for a grand temple de l'Égalité. This large drawing is part of Jean-Jacques Huvé's activities during this period. Dim. 63 x 130 cm
