By the mid-thirties, he had incorporated Vuillard's Nabi intimism. Our painting perfectly sums up this poetic synthesis on the bangs of figuration and abstraction, the conclusion of all his previous aesthetic experiments. The still-life theme is borrowed from Cubism, as is the simplification of space. Objects are summed up in an intimate interior, undefined and too precise, like the Nabis. The pure splashes of color stem from his formalist experiments of the early 20th century. For the various exhibitions, the labels were glued upside down to the back of the painting.
