Henri RIVIERE (1864-1951) - Lot 2
Henri RIVIERE (1864-1951) Sunset Plate from the "Aspects of Nature" series, 1897 Color lithograph, stamped lower left, edges a little yellowed. Sheet size 64 x 90cm, images approx. 54.5 x 84cm. (Some tears in the margins). Les aspects de la nature" 1897, is Henri Rivière's first series of lithographs. These 16 lithographs have a didactic vocation, in line with the images intended for schools. They were sold by subscription, to limit the publisher's financial risks. The lithographs were presented for the first time in the Salle des Dépêches at the Théâtre Antoine (14 boulevard de Strasbourg) from January 15 to February 15, 1898. Each lithograph, printed in twelve colors, is published in an edition of 1,000 copies on slightly cream-colored wove paper made especially for these lithographs. The series of eight "Paysages parisiens", 1900, features 12-color lithographs printed and edited by Eugène Verneau. An edition of 1,000 on light vellum plus 25 on chine, numbered and signed by Rivière, with the stones erased after printing.
