MORGAN, Jacques de. Scientific Mission to Persia. Paris, Ernest Ledoux, 1896. Two parts in one large volume in-4. 2] ff., XI-[1]bl. -399-[3] pp. 66 plates, 10 in color. Contemporary brown half-chagrin, spine ribbed, gilt title and fleurons (slight rubbing to binding, edges of q. leaves slightly oxidized). A good copy. Fourth volume, Les recherches archéologiques, in two parts, of Morgan's five-volume work, Mission scientifique en Perse, published between 1894 and 1904. Beautifully illustrated with 66 lithographed plates, including 10 in color, and numerous figures in the text, some full-page. The author, an explorer and archaeologist, did not set out to offer an exhaustive study, but collected memoirs and documents from his field observations to serve as a basis for further research. The fruit of a two-year stay in Persia (1889-1891), this collection, devoted in particular to the Achaemenid period, aims to contribute to the study of the arts, history and geography of ancient Iran, and has given rise to a major work in five volumes. [Persia].
