MASON, Kenneth [and others]. Iraq and the Persian Gulf. Oxford sub-Center of the Naval Intelligence Division, 1944. In-8, XVIII-682 pp, figures and plates, publisher's green percaline (spine sunned, cuts and corners rubbed, one plate loose).
First and only edition.
Geographical manual of Iraq and the Persian Gulf, written by Colonel Kenneth Mason and published by the Oxford Sub-Center of the Naval Intelligence Division, under his direction, with contributions from numerous collaborators.
The aim of the book was to train naval officers in all aspects of Iraq (then under British military occupation since 1941) and the Persian Gulf. It was strictly reserved for naval officers, but was made public after the Naval Intelligence Division was disbanded in 1964.
Illustrated with over 330 in- and out-of-text figures, including 84 maps, 13 of which are out-of-text (most of them folding), representing various regions of Iraq (Baghdad, Kerbala, Erbil, Mosul...). It also includes a large color map of Iraq, Arabia and Persia, as well as another map, inserted in a pocket at the end of the volume, tracing the routes to Iraq.
Part of the Geographical Handbook Series.
