LATOUR, Antoine de. SINETY, A.L., marquis de. Voyage de S.A.R. Monseigneur le Duc de Montpensier à Tunis, en Egypte, en Turquie et en Grèce. Paris, Arthus Bertrand, (1847). In-8. (3)-II-261 pp. Half-bottle morocco with corners, boards underlined by a double gilt fillet, spine decorated with gilt caissons, gilt title (minor rubbing to corners, headpieces and spinebands, an epidermure to verso, very slight brown spots). Beautiful binding signed by Dupré. A highly prized work recounting the journey of King Louis-Philippe's fifth son, Antoine d'Orléans, Duc de Montpensier, written by his tutor, the French poet and writer Antoine de Latour (1808-1881). Unique copy. This work was published with an Atlas. Here, the text stands alone, but the copy has the particularity of having been bound with 18 albumen prints (7 x 10.7 cm), laminated on strong paper and mounted on tabs (one of which is the frontispiece), which are plates of the engraved title page and illustrations from the book's Atlas. The story begins in Alexandria in July 1845: Algiers, La Goulette, Tunis, Carthage, Alexandria, Nile dam, Cairo, Thebes, Aswan, Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu, the Colossi, Denderah, Fayoum, Rhodes, Constantinople, Scutari, Brousse, Smyrna, Athens and surroundings, Argolida, Mistra, crossing the Taygetos to Messinia, Ithome, Kalamata, Delphi, Patras, then back to Toulon. SECOND EMPIRE. ORIENTALISM. GRAND TOUR. Blackmer, 952. Atabey, 1138. Weber, II, 399. Hage Chahine, 2668.
