[Islamic architecture]. GIRAULT DE PRANGEY, Joseph-Philibert. Memories of Granada and the Alhambra. Paris, Veith & Hauser, (1839). In-folio (55 x 40 cm). 2 titles, (10) pp. text with ornate framing, 30 black lithographed plates including frontispiece, (2) pp. plate explanations. Contemporary half-bottle morocco with corners, boards underlined by a gilt fillet and title in gilt Gothic on the first board, smooth spine, gilt title, floral embossed percaline boards (very slight wear to binding, minor marginal soiling on a few ff., notably the frontispiece, due to handling). A fine copy of this superb work, entirely lithographed, in its original binding. Volume three only, of Girault de Prangey's series Monuments arabes et mauresques de Cordoue, Séville et Grenade, dessinés et mesurés en 1832 et 1833. The illustration consists of 30 lithographs, whose subjects range from vast panoramic or picturesque views to finely drawn architectural details. The plates are based on the author's paintings, plans and drawings made on site in 1832 and 1833, by Bichebois, Chapuis, Danjoy, Hubert, Monthelier, Sabatier and Villeneuve.... Provenance: small collector's dry stamp of the arms of the GIRAULT family, Champagne (azure on a fess between three crescents in chief and a goat in base, all argent), at the bottom of the title page. Palau, VI, 102629. Sweetmann, 1997.
