VOLKSWAGEN: The most extravagant Golf - Lot 30
VOLKSWAGEN: The most extravagant Golf 1991 Golf Country Second hand, same owner for over twenty years Beautiful patina, never restored, no corrosion Ready for adventure! Collector's choice Favourable CT dated 26/12/2025 Maintenance carried out for sale Chassis n°VWZZZ1GZNWO0 2187 French registration document On the Country, the choice of colors is rather limited: the famous red of the Golf GTI. Sold by VAG France headquarters, it was put into service at Villers-Cotterêts on December 24, 1991, as attested by its service booklet. This shows several Volkswagen stamps and indicates that the car had 156,870 km in 2004. Prior to that, its first owner used it regularly, notably on wine estates in the Bordeaux region. Our collector purchased it from the original owner in 2004. It bears its original registration. It now has 163,266 km and has just been serviced. The MOT is up to date. The vehicle is accompanied by its logbook with operating instructions, service book and all VAG Service Mobilité documents. Under the hood is the familiar 1.8-liter Golf II, developing 98 hp. Here, it is fitted with a modern electronic fuel injection system known as Digifant, identical to that used on Golf II GTIs with the PB engine. It's quite a modern block for a Golf II. The gear ratio, shorter than that of the front-wheel-drive Golf 1.8, gives the four-cylinder engine enough pep and flexibility to get around without a care, even off the beaten track. The car shows no signs of perforating corrosion, and is in good used condition, with a few traces of wear normal to a car of this mileage that has never been restored. Country-specific accessories are present. A period sunroof has been fitted. Rarely seen, the driver's bucket seat is completely unmarked or torn on the beading, and the dashboard is not cracked. The option label is of course present. It's worth noting that only 7,735 Golf Country models were produced in two years, a tiny number compared with the more than 6,410,000 Golf IIs. The car's popularity in France remained confidential, unlike in Switzerland, where it was both the trendy car of ski resorts and the car of forest rangers in certain mountainous cantons. Winter use, salt and damp have taken their toll, and sound, unrestored examples are now rare. This one is ready to hit the road again... and especially the backcountry roads.
