Nagara Hāymānot [Discourse on faith and other texts] Ethiopia, late 19th century Ethiopian manuscript (in Guèze and Amharic) on parchment, 164 fols. (folioed in pencil), 12 to 18 lines per page, text in several hands in Ethiopian script with black and red ink. Vintage binding, later rough wood ais boards, bare spine, visible strings and stitching forming four nerves, twenty quires visible. (Good overall condition, some wetness). 14 x 10 cm This religious manuscript contains in particular an unpublished discourse on faith, of which only eight other copies are known (information given by Prof. Dr. Alessandro Bausi). The Discourse contains many quotations from ancient texts in Guèze. Gueze is the classical language, while Amharic is one of Ethiopia's modern languages. Both are used in this manuscript, which is said to have been copied after 1878.
