Provenance: The Armenian bishop Mathatias Episcopos, 1836; Acquired in 1982, most probably from E.J. Brill Ltd, Leiden, Netherlands
Armenian translation of the complete Syriac Commentary on the Psalms of David by Daniel de Salah.
This manuscript is the only copy, commissioned in the 19th century, of the only medieval Armenian manuscript of the Complete Commentary on the Psalms of David, which was copied in 1289 and is now kept at the Bzommar monastery in Lebanon (Mss no. 120). The Bzommar Commentary on the Psalms is in fact the only surviving medieval manuscript containing the complete Commentary on the 150 psalms. It was translated from Syriac into Armenian by Catholicos Krikor Vgayaser (d. 1105) for Archbishop Yovhannēs brother of the King of Armenia. Its only known copy to date is the present manuscript.
The rare text of this Commentary has not yet been published, either in Syriac, Armenian or Arabic.
