BSA - Lot 3
BSA BSA, Spitfire, 1968 Chassis n°A65SB/10143 Engine no.A65SB/10146 The Birmingham Small Arms Company, or BSA for short, was originally a British arms manufacturer founded in 1861. This group of British companies began manufacturing motorcycles (among other things) in 1910. The Spitfire was produced from 1966 to 1968. Announced at the Brighton Motorcycle Show, it was based on the previous BSA Lightning, but with increased power. It was one of the first BSAs to have a 12-volt power supply. At the time of its release, it was the fastest standard BSA ever produced, with a top speed of 123 mph. It was even used as a liaison bike by the race marshals at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy in 1967. Our example spent most of its life in Isère, before joining a collection in the Var. The bike appears not to have been ridden for some time. The engine is not blocked, but it will need some work to get it back into its original configuration and a general check-up before it can once again burn rubber on the beautiful roads of France.
