Karl Koelitz, Beschreibendes Inventar (Katalog) der Allerhöchsten Privatsammlung kunstgewerblicher Gegenstände (Zähringer museum), Aufgestellt in der Räumen des ehemaligen Grossherzoglichen Naturalienkabinets, Karlsruhe, 1883.
Richter: Inventar des Zähringer Museums, Aufgestellt in den Räumen des Kavalierbaues des Großherzoglichen Schlosses in Baden-Baden, 1919ff.
Condition: Two very small chips on the edge of the foot. There is some minor loss of enamel, as well as two small holes in the metal (perhaps for originally attaching ornaments).
Our bowl was first mentioned in the inventory of Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden (1826-1907), in 1883. It was probably part of the Grand Duke's Naturaliencabinet at Karlsruhe Palace. On his death, when his estate was divided, it was exhibited in the rooms of the Neues Schloss in Baden-Baden.
The famous silversmith Hans Kobenhaupt (†1623), active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, worked in Stuttgart for the court of the Dukes of Württemberg.
