First edition; Leaving Beirut in October 1857, the author traveled to Damascus, then to the Haouran region, Jerusalem and the shores of the Dead Sea. The account of his journey is illustrated with numerous photographic views reproduced in lithography by Cicéri, maps, topographical plans, architectural and epigraphic fragments and views of some ancient monuments.
