Rome, Typis Sacrae Congregationis de Propaganda Fide, 1658-1661. An important work, entirely bilingual in Armenian and Latin. This is the major work of Clemente Galano (1611-1666), an Italian theatin missionary who spent several periods in the East, notably in Constantinople and Georgia, where he learned Armenian. He taught this language at the Pontifical College in Rome. In this work, the author draws on Armenian, Greek and Latin sources to recount Armenian history and argue for the unity of the Armenian Church with Rome. Galano has been accused of falsifying information about Armenian political and ecclesiastical history. The work is of particular importance as a primary source, since it uses documents that have since disappeared.
Copy including the two volumes forming the second, autonomous part of the work, devoted to the controversy. The first, historical part is not included here.150
