ATAMIAN, Charles (1872-1947) - Lot 77
ATAMIAN, Charles (1872-1947) Untitled [Man with bust], ca. 1911-1918 Pencil on paper. Paper dimensions: 20.8 x 27.5 cm. Signed on the vintage cardboard passe-partout, overall good condition. Pencil study executed with finesse, probably during the period when Atamian was traveling throughout Europe and collaborating with numerous illustrated magazines, between 1911 and 1918. The work bears witness to an intimate eye and a masterful sense of line, typical of his preparatory work. Charles Atamian, a naturalized French Armenian-Ottoman painter and illustrator, is best known for his seaside scenes and portraits. He settled in Paris in 1897 and, between 1910 and 1920, he traveled regularly, illustrating well-known books and periodicals (L'Illustration, Le Figaro illustré, etc.). His style blends poetic realism with graphic precision.
