[Armenia]. [Photographs]. Typical scenes and views of Cilici - Lot 69

[Armenia]. [Photographs]. Typical scenes and views of Cilicia and Taurus 1892-1894. [S.l.], 1 album in-4 oblong (ca. 28.5 x 38 cm), 42 ff, brown percaline, gilt title on upper cover (binding worn, interior in good condition). Rare photographic set comprising 48 original prints made between 1892 and 1894, spread over 42 leaves, illustrating daily life, towns, streets, bridges and emblematic scenes of the Cilicia and Taurus regions (Ottoman Empire, present-day southern Turkey). Each shot bears witness to the architecture, landscapes and human types of the time, offering a unique documentary look at this now largely transformed region. The album notably includes a rare photograph of the city of Adana, little represented in photographic collections of the XIXᵉ century. The set appears to be unpublished and unreferenced in major institutional databases, making it an exceptional document for the visual history of the Ottoman Empire, Cilicia and ethnographic photography.
